Weddings at Hardwick Hall Hotel, County Durham

One of my favourite venues in County Durham - Hardwick Hall Hotel is a proper North East classic for weddings.

Set just off the A1(M) and surrounded by Hardwick Country Park, it has that real country house feel but with everything you need on one site. The original estate dates back to 1183, with the Manor from 1435, and it has been beautifully transformed into a 4-star hotel with 51 individually decorated bedrooms.

A venue for any size of wedding

What I love about Hardwick Hall as a photographer is how flexible it is. It is licensed for civil ceremonies and has a range of suites to suit everything from an intimate ceremony to a big celebration.

The Coleman Suite: The grand, newly refurbished main suite that comfortably holds up to 380 seated guests, perfect for lavish receptions.

The Lakeside Marquee: With lakeside views, stunning for both ceremony and evening photos.

Smaller suites like the Boyne Suite and Floral Chaple: Ideal if you want something more private. Whether you are planning 30 guests or 300, they can make the rooms work for you.

Why it photographs so well

1. The grounds: The hotel sits in its own parkland and is surrounded by Hardwick Country Park - lakes, woodland, and open lawns right on the doorstep. Great for that quiet 10-minute walk for couple portraits.

2. The light: The ceremony rooms and the marquee have fantastic natural light, which makes for soft, romantic ceremony images.

3. All in one place: With bridal prep, ceremony, reception and evening party all in one location, there is no rushing between venues.

If you are planning your wedding at Hardwick Hall Hotel, I would love to chat. I know the venue well, I know where the best light is at different times of day, and how to get those lakeside sunset shots without keeping you away from your guests for long.
