A Summer Wedding to Remember: Georgina & Daniel at The Grand Hotel, Gosforth Park

Saturday 21st June was one of those glorious North East summer days where the sun blazed down from a cloudless sky and the world just felt that little bit more magical. It was the perfect setting for Georgina and Daniel’s wedding at the luxurious Grand Hotel, Gosforth Park – a day that turned out to be intimate, full of love, laughter, and more than a little bit of sunshine (and Prosecco!).

Arriving Early – Bridal Prep in Full Bloom

I arrived bright and early to catch Georgina’s bridal preparations at the Grand Hotel. From the moment I stepped inside, the atmosphere was buzzing – and not just with wedding excitement! The hotel was also playing host to rugby teams preparing for Saturday’s Armed Forces vs North Select match at Kingston Park. It made for quite the lively backdrop!

Upstairs, however, things were a complete contrast. Georgina’s suite was calm, serene and filled with beautiful light pouring through tall windows. She was surrounded by her two bridesmaids, Lucy and Alisha, and a brilliant makeup artist who was already hard at work. Georgina herself was calm but with those tell-tale flickers of pre-wedding butterflies – though she hid them like a pro. Laughter, banter and clinking glasses of chilled Prosecco set the tone for the morning.

As always, I began photographing the little details – the dress, shoes, flowers, jewellery – the parts that so often get overlooked but are full of personal touches and meaning. These moments, in my opinion, are essential to capturing the whole story of the day.

Groom Time – Daniel and the Boys

After soaking in the morning’s peaceful preparations, I made my way down to the stylish hotel bar to catch up with the groom, Daniel, and his best man Chris. But they weren’t alone.

Enter: Toby and Harvey – the dynamic duo, sons of Chris and Bridesmaid Lucy. Full of energy, cheek, and boundless charm, they added an extra dose of life and laughter to the day. These two would go on to steal the hearts of everyone at the wedding – and make regular appearances in my camera roll!

Daniel, dapper and cool, was the picture of composure. A few jokes with Chris and a round of drinks in the plush bar settled the nerves, and the excitement began to build as the ceremony time edged closer.

A Personal Ceremony with Heart

Georgina’s dress reveal to her dad, Tony, was emotional and beautiful – the kind of moment that reminds me exactly why I love photographing weddings. It’s these unscripted moments of raw emotion that really bring the story to life.

The ceremony itself was held in one of the hotel’s elegantly dressed function rooms. Small weddings like this one – just parents, siblings, close relatives and dear friends – always have a unique atmosphere. There’s an intimacy, a warmth, a closeness that makes every word, every smile and every tear feel even more special.

Georgina and Daniel’s ceremony was short but incredibly heartfelt. You could see the deep bond between them in every glance and smile.

Sunshine, Gazebo Vibes & Group Shots

Post-ceremony, we moved out into the glorious sunshine for group shots at the hotel’s wedding gazebo – a charming white structure nestled within the hotel’s manicured gardens. It's a favourite spot for couples and photographers alike, especially when the weather delivers like it did today!

We kept the group shots light, relaxed and full of personality – no stiff poses here, just real moments, real smiles, and a lot of love. After that, it was onto the sun-soaked patio for some candid shots as guests mingled and soaked up the rays.

The Grand Hotel – A Hidden Gem in Gosforth

Let me just take a moment to shout out The Grand Hotel, Gosforth Park. This venue is truly something special. Set within 12 acres of parkland, it blends countryside calm with city convenience – just three miles from Newcastle city centre and moments from Newcastle Racecourse.

The hotel itself boasts elegant function spaces, spa facilities, a modern health club, and recently refurbished interiors. The grounds are beautiful for wedding photography, offering both natural and architectural backdrops. It’s no surprise this 4-star hotel is such a popular choice for North East weddings.

With wedding packages to suit intimate and grand occasions alike, and a professional team that make everything run like clockwork, The Grand ticks all the boxes. (If you’re still hunting for your perfect venue, it’s one to add to your shortlist.)

The Wedding Breakfast and Speeches

At 3pm, guests were ushered into the stylish dining suite for the wedding breakfast. Daniel, Chris and Tony delivered their speeches. They hit just the right blend of funny, touching and heartfelt. These are the moments I love hearing – the inside jokes, the tears, the stories from the stag do that probably shouldn’t have been shared!

Then I nipped off to the bar for a well-earned breather – and to sample the food (perks of the job!). The meal was, as expected from such a prestigious venue, exceptional. From start to finish – quality, flavour and service all top notch.

Bride & Groom Portraits – Golden Light & Grand Backdrops

Once the meal had finished and the sun began to drop a little lower in the sky (thankfully!), we headed out for some Bride and Groom portraits.

The Grand’s grounds offer so many photo opportunities – from tree-lined paths to elegant stonework, balconies, staircases and more. We made full use of the golden light, choosing a few hidden corners for some quiet moments, then took a wander back through the hotel for some creative indoor shots using its rich interior tones and soft natural light.

Georgina and Daniel were a dream to photograph. Relaxed, natural, affectionate – exactly how it should be.

Evening Reception – Small Crowd, Big Energy

As evening guests arrived, the energy lifted again. The slightly larger gathering brought a buzz to the room without losing the intimacy that had been present all day. There’s a real charm to weddings of this size – people chat, connect, dance, and laugh without feeling overwhelmed.

And of course, Toby and Harvey were back in the spotlight – this time as the unofficial entertainment. Harvey zoomed about with unstoppable energy, while Toby decided that Georgina’s friend Sarah was clearly the most interesting person in the room. He plonked himself beside her and held a long, one-on-one chat like a seasoned socialite. Everyone was in stitches!

First Dance and Goodbyes

The First Dance was magical – Georgina and Daniel in their own little world, surrounded by guests who were clearly invested in every second. Then, the dancefloor opened and filled quickly with guests of all ages throwing some impressive moves into the mix.

I stayed for a final round of dancefloor shots before packing up my gear. As I stepped outside into the warm evening air, I was exhausted, sweaty, but absolutely buzzing. Weddings like this remind me of everything I love about what I do.

It wasn’t the biggest wedding, but it was bursting with heart, personality and joy. Georgina and Daniel – thank you for letting me be part of it.
