Sara & Euan's Wedding Day | From Morning Preparations to a Relaxed Reception

Some wedding days naturally fall into chapters, and Sara and Euan's was definitely one of them. Three incredible locations, three very different atmospheres and a day packed full of brilliant people, laughter and unforgettable moments. This is how their wedding day unfolded.

My day started at 11am with a drive to Ramside Hall, just outside Durham. The sun was already high in the sky, the temperature was climbing and it was shaping up to be one of those glorious summer days that every couple hopes for.

Walking into Sara's room, there was an immediate sense of calm. No frantic rushing around or last-minute panic—just a room full of smiles, laughter and quiet excitement as the countdown to the ceremony continued.

Sara was surrounded by her bridesmaids, Caitlin and Ceri, who were busy having their hair and make-up finished while the final touches were being added to Sara's own preparations. Conversation flowed effortlessly, drinks were poured and every now and again someone glanced at the clock, realising the day they'd all been waiting for was getting ever closer.

These are always some of my favourite moments to photograph. There's no pressure and no posing, just genuine interactions between the people who matter most. It's a chance to capture the little moments that often become some of the most treasured memories.

Around midday I headed upstairs to find Euan and the lads.

Joining him were Best Man—and brother—Kieran, along with groomsmen Ben and Matt. As with many groom preparations, there was plenty of banter and more than a little uncertainty when it came to tying ties. It's amazing how often this happens! Thankfully, Mark stepped in to save the day, confidently taking on tie duties while everyone else looked suitably impressed.

Once everyone was suited and booted, the atmosphere shifted ever so slightly. The jokes were still flying around, but underneath it all was that unmistakable feeling that everything was becoming very real. In just a short while, they'd all be standing at the front waiting for Sara to arrive.

After spending some time with the boys, I headed back to Sara's room where everything had come together beautifully. The girls were now all in their dresses, with Lucy joining Caitlin and Ceri, and the excitement was definitely beginning to build.

We took the opportunity for some relaxed portraits of Sara with her bridesmaids before inviting mums Jo and Jules to join in for a few family photographs.

These moments are always special. The anticipation is written all over everyone's faces, mixed with plenty of smiles, laughter and the occasional emotional glance as the reality of the day starts to sink in. They're the kind of photographs that often become family favourites, capturing not just how everyone looked, but exactly how it felt to be there.

Of course, no wedding morning is complete without someone stealing the limelight, and today that honour belonged to Archie, the family's beautiful West Highland Terrier. He happily joined us for a few photographs and, unsurprisingly, became an instant favourite with everyone in the room.

Before leaving Ramside Hall, there was just enough time for a few relaxed portraits of Euan in the hotel's exquisite bar area before I jumped back into the car for the short drive across to The Story.

The journey only takes a matter of minutes, but it marks a real shift in the day. The anticipation builds, guests begin arriving and suddenly everything becomes very real.

By 1.30pm, friends and family had gathered outside the venue, greeting one another with hugs, handshakes and plenty of smiles. The atmosphere was buzzing with excitement as everyone prepared to witness Sara and Euan finally say, "I do."

Before guests were invited inside, Euan was joined by the rest of his groomsmen, Dylan, Dylan and Harry, completing the full wedding party. We gathered everyone together for a few photographs on the impressive stone steps outside The Story. These pre-ceremony portraits are always some of my favourites. The nerves are definitely there, but they're hidden behind plenty of banter, laughter and the occasional attempt to convince the groom that everything is completely under control.

As always, the team at The Story were outstanding. Guests were welcomed inside with effortless professionalism, ensuring everyone found their seats quickly and calmly. Having photographed weddings here many times, it's always a pleasure working alongside a venue team that makes everything appear seamless while keeping the day running perfectly to schedule.

At 1.45pm, Sara arrived looking absolutely stunning.

Before heading inside, we paused for a few portraits on the magnificent front steps of The Story. The warm sunshine and beautiful stone façade provided the perfect backdrop, giving us those final photographs before the ceremony began.

Sara was then escorted inside alongside her bridesmaids, Caitlin, Ceri and Lucy, with mums Jo and Jules by her side, making their way to the bridal suite for those final quiet moments before walking down the aisle.

These few minutes before a ceremony always feel special. Dresses receive one final adjustment, bouquets are carefully held, veils are checked and everyone takes a moment to breathe before those doors finally open.

Then it was time.

The ceremony itself was held in the beautiful ceremony room at The Story. Having photographed weddings here on numerous occasions, I know exactly how wonderfully the room works for both guests and photography. The natural light, elegant surroundings and intimate atmosphere create the perfect setting for a couple to begin married life together.

Of course, Sara and Euan's ceremony included one moment that nobody will forget.

Rather than the best man producing the wedding rings, the responsibility belonged to Archie.

Their beautiful West Highland Terrier proudly made his way down the aisle carrying the rings, instantly stealing every heart in the room. Guests couldn't help but smile, laughter rippled through the ceremony and even Euan couldn't hide his grin. It was one of those wonderfully personal moments that made the ceremony uniquely theirs.

With Archie's important job successfully completed, the ceremony continued with heartfelt vows, plenty of smiles and, before long, the words everyone had been waiting to hear.

Officially husband and wife.

As the applause filled the room, the smiles on Sara and Euan's faces said everything. The nerves had disappeared, replaced by excitement and happiness as they walked back down the aisle together.

Before joining their guests, we paused on the magnificent grand staircase inside The Story for a few relaxed portraits as newlyweds. It's one of my favourite locations in the venue, offering a timeless backdrop while giving couples a few precious minutes together before the celebrations continue.

Back outside, family and friends were ready to welcome the newlyweds with a fantastic bubble run. As Sara and Euan walked through a tunnel of floating bubbles, cheers and laughter echoed across the front of the venue. The afternoon sunshine caught every bubble perfectly, creating a magical atmosphere and some beautiful natural photographs.

With everyone gathered together, it was the ideal opportunity for a full group photograph on the front steps of The Story before spending a little more time creating some relaxed portraits of the newlyweds outside the venue.

With the ceremony complete, it was time to make the short journey back to Ramside Hall for the celebrations to continue.

As guests arrived back at the Barn Marquee, the atmosphere immediately became more relaxed. The formalities of the ceremony were behind everyone and it was time to enjoy the afternoon with great company, good food and plenty of laughter.

Many of the guests headed straight for the lawn games that had been set up outside the marquee. Giant Jenga and Velcro Darts proved particularly popular, while others enjoyed a game of Three in a Row or took a look at Guess the Guest. It was wonderful to see everyone making the most of the sunshine, laughing together and enjoying the relaxed atmosphere before the reception began.

Elsewhere, the bar area was already full of conversation. Friends caught up, families shared stories from the day so far and new friendships were being formed between two families who had just become one. These natural moments are always a joy to photograph, capturing the genuine connections that make every wedding unique.

At 4.30pm, guests were invited to take their seats inside the beautifully dressed Barn Marquee, ready to welcome the newlyweds into the next part of the celebrations.

As Sara and Euan made their grand entrance, they were greeted with huge applause and plenty of cheers from their family and friends. The smiles on their faces said it all. The ceremony nerves had disappeared completely, replaced by the excitement of celebrating with everyone they loved.

The celebrations continued with the cutting of the wedding cake before everyone settled in for one of the highlights of the afternoon—the speeches.

Euan's dad, Paul, was first to speak, delivering a wonderfully entertaining speech completely off the cuff. It was full of warmth, humour and stories that had guests laughing throughout, proving that sometimes the most natural speeches leave the biggest impression.

He was followed by Sara's mums, Jo and Jules, whose heartfelt words reflected just how proud they were of Sara and how warmly they welcomed Euan into the family. Their speech was full of love and emotion, creating one of the most touching moments of the day.

Bringing the speeches to a close, Euan thanked everyone for sharing such an important day with them. His speech was short, sincere and perfectly judged, expressing his appreciation to family, friends and everyone who had helped make their wedding day so memorable.

With the speeches complete, it was finally time for everyone to enjoy the gourmet buffet, giving guests the chance to relax, chat and refuel before the final photographs of the day.

For me, it was also the perfect opportunity to grab a well-earned break, recharge the batteries and prepare for the last chapter of Sara and Euan's wedding story.

After everyone had finished eating, I gathered the guests outside onto the lawn for the formal family photographs. The rain had just started to spit, but thankfully it wasn't anything more than a passing shower and certainly not enough to put anyone off. Everyone embraced the weather with a smile, and with a bit of organisation we worked our way through all the family combinations in good time.

With the group photographs complete, there was just one final task left for the day—Sara and Euan's official bride and groom portraits.

Earlier in the day we'd already picked out a few locations around Ramside Hall that we wanted to use, so we headed off together while their guests continued enjoying the celebrations. Having already planned where we were going meant everything felt relaxed and unhurried, allowing Sara and Euan to simply enjoy a few quiet moments together as newlyweds.

By this point, all the nerves had long since disappeared. They laughed together, chatted about everything that had happened during the day and took a few moments to reflect on becoming husband and wife. Those are often my favourite photographs—not overly posed, just two people enjoying each other's company while I quietly captured the moments as they happened.

Despite the light rain, we managed to capture every photograph we'd planned without a hitch, finishing exactly as we'd hoped.

With the last images safely in the bag, it was time to say my goodbyes.

As I packed away the cameras and headed back to the car, I left feeling tired but incredibly happy. Spending an entire wedding day with a couple and their families is always a privilege, and by the time I leave it rarely feels like I'm saying goodbye to clients.

Instead, it feels like I'm saying goodbye to new friends.

Sara and Euan, thank you both for trusting me to capture such an incredible day. From those calm preparations at Ramside Hall to your beautiful ceremony at The Story and back again for a fantastic celebration with your family and friends, it was an absolute pleasure to be part of your wedding. I wish you both a lifetime of happiness together and hope these photographs allow you to relive every smile, every laugh and every special moment for many years to come.
